New (gulp) cover

OK, every cover represents some artist's creative endeavor, so I'm going to do my best to be supportive and positive. :::deep breath::: Here's my December cover. Please note that Alex Gray, my hero, is actually 26, not 56, and he wears sweatshirts and jeans, mostly, not strange patchy vests that look like something out of Land of the Lost. But I was having a bad computer day when my Art Fact Sheet was due, and I completed it by phone, so I guess that's what happens....

Every cover represents some artist's creative endeavor. Every cover represents some artist's creative endeavor. I am being supportive. I support this artist's creativity. White light ... white light ...

The blurb, on the other hand, is awesome:

As an experienced search-and-rescue tracker, Alex Gray had solved his share of mysteries. But beneath his cool Lakota demeanor, Alex was running from his own dark secrets … including a traumatic family history that connected him to a killer. Now someone from his past had returned to play a deadly game. And only one woman could help him….

Sophie Brennan knew that Alex was the key to stopping the string of murders plaguing the Washington mountains. But as the authorities questioned her credibility, she had to resist the almost mystical connection she shared with Alex. For hiding in the shadows, someone was waiting to silence her whispered warnings …forever.

Well I think you are being very brave, The cover is not bad and you know there have been really bad ones out there. We were just talking about covers on another Blog page today.

Keep up the good job with the great books

Welcome, Mickey! Thanks for stopping by, and for being so sweet.

Although I think brave will be trotting that cover on my website and pretending nothing's wrong (so very, very wrong) with it. Which blog is talking about covers? I'd love to see some examples of how this could be worse--misery loves company, etc. etc. : )

Thanks for stopping by!

As covers go, I've seen worse. Maybe Alex is a "mature" 26.

At least your people don't look plastic. Did Sharron ever tell you about our idea to mock covers (not yours) using Barbie(TM) and Mr. Potato Head(TM)? We'd have to do some creative black strip across the eyes to avoid being sued, of course.

I'm sorry, Tracy! I wanted to say something positive...um, SHE'S very pretty. He looks like Bela Lugosi. I'm really, really sorry! But I'll buy it anyway.

Tracy it is the petticoats & Pistols there are 10 authors who write westerns. It is fun to look at the different things they come up with each day. Today it is was about Country singers.

::reminds self to pay extra attention to the AFS::

I wonder if it was trying to catch the Native American look that threw the poor cover artist...off a bit?

It's only a cover. It's only a cover.

You may have to remind me I said that come November when I get my February book cover.

Tracy,
aside from the fact that this cover art didn't meet your expectations, it has a lot going for it. First, the hero is rugged and handsome. Yep, maybe not your taste, but I'm betting a lot of women will find him HOT! Second, if he wasn't wearing a vest with nothing under it in winter, we'd miss seeing his impressive biceps.

If the cover art is more concerned with marketing than accuracy, you have a good cover. Not the one you wanted, maybe... Still, I'm betting lots of readers will find it appealing.

No kidding!
Cheryl

Cathy, that's hilarious. And Mr. Potato Head has better taste in clothes than this guy....

Thanks, Mary! Sometimes, there are just no words ... even for a writer.

Mickey, I'll check them out--and do an archive search if I have to. People keep telling me that their cover is worse than mine, but I'm not buying it.

Hey, Paula! So glad you stopped by! And I'm not sure WHAT threw the artist off, but I'm thinking it was massive amounts of weed in the 70s.

Cheri, I'm actually curious to see what this does to my sales. Thanks for being so relentlessly positive about it--here's hoping!

Hey, Jen! Thanks for the nudge. It's been an INSANE summer (and early fall), but things are calming down now. I'll try to post more often. Hope you're doing well!
