Bitter.

I haven't been able to wrap my head around the fact that I'm not going to see my favorite Idol, Chris Daughtry, in the American Idol finale. Say what you will about his being a "one-trick pony," but how many famous singers out there AREN'T one-trick ponies in that same fashion? Did you ever see Whitney Houston eschewing a power ballad to strap on a guitar and belt out a hard rock, Melissa-Etheridge-esque tune before crack ate her brain? No, you did not. Did you ever see Tom Petty stand alone before a microphone under a Vegas spotlight and croon about how his heart will go on and on? No, you did not. It's called an identity, and most singers have a discernable one, rather than morphing from a power balladeer to Freddy Mercury to an operatic tenor in the course of a month or two.

I'm bitter, people. I'm really bitter.

So Chris is gone, and the finale will probably be Taylor Hicks soul patrolling all over the place against either Elliott the sweet but placid blues singer or Katherine "Look at me, I can dance!" McPhee (the latter hopefully not doing her Lieutenant Dan impression by shuffling up and down the stage on her knees again. What WAS that?).

Anyone else who is in mourning can click here
to rewatch Chris's singular performance of Fuel's "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)," as many times as it takes to wash away the bitter taste of Chris's untimely demise. Apparently, Fuel is without a lead singer at the moment and in an appearance on EXTRA last night offered Chris the job (once his contract with the devil/American Idol expires). I hope he takes it, rather than allowing the suckfest AI producers to squash any hint of originality in his voice and turn him into a soulless, bubble-gum pop automaton *cough* Bo Bice and "The Real Thing" *cough*.

Chris sounds like Goat Boy's brother. There was nothing better than seeing the pissed look on his face after Shortcrest told him he was done.

Elliott needs to go next. He looks like Mumbly from the old Hanna Barbera cartoons.

Tommy, is that you? Show your face before you insult my favorite, sir!

I missed the look on his face--our Tivo ate the last six minutes of the results show. : P

Yes - that was me, your brother who wrote that. You'll have to try and find tape of him at then end - he looked so mad that I thought that he was going to leave his wife....oh,wait.....

Don't I get big ups for the Mumbly comment?

I knew it! I thought you liked Elliot? Although the Mumbly thing was hilarious. He DOES kind of look like him!

Devil's advocate here....the one trick pony was my comment on Trish's blog. He approached every song with the same level of intensity. No variation. He does have a wonderful voice, but just didn't show the range the others have.

I like Taylor, but I have no doubt Katharine will win. I liked the song she was singing on her knees, though.

Maybe that's why I don't watch. The idea of forcing a singer to sing something that isn't their "voice" (to use a writing term) is appalling to me. I guess that's why the ones who are making it (Clay Aiken, Kelly Clarkson etc) have the same pop sound. It's not that they're not good, but they're not all that original. My guilty secret is that I love Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.
You're not the only one. Apparently it's all over the radio about this particular vote off.
Cure for bitterness? Kill of Simon and Paula in your next suspense, Tracy.

Mary, the "one-trick pony" comment is something I got off of Entertainment Weekly online, so you're not alone. But I still liked him. *sob!*

I've never been a huge Katherine fan. I think Elliot is coming up from behind and may surprise everyone.

Elliott just isn't fun to watch, though. Katharine is really beautiful, and talented, though she doesn't feel the music the way the men did. It would have been very cool to have an all-male final round.

I was looking at a February US magazine, and the only one they predicted to be in the top ten that was was Taylor.

Jen, I like Kelly Clarkson, too. Carrie, not so much, because I'm not a country music fan. Unfortunately, Simon and Paula had nothing to do with Chris getting voted off, because they were predicting he'd make it to the end. So it's the Katherine McPhee fan base that I'm directing my bitterness toward!

Interesting, Mary! I don't mind Katherine, but I think I'd rather see her get into acting than singing. She has a nice voice, but I'm not crazy about her compared to *sob!* Chris.
